Family fun and an important lesson or two at Occombe Farm in Torbay
Occombe Farm is an award-winning organic working farm nestled in the heart of Torbay. Created by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust, this special place aspires to reconnect local folk young and old with food, farming and the countryside. While chock full of fun stuff to see and do, the farm also offers important insights into the provenance of our food today. And the best bit of all…entry to the farm won’t cost you a bean.
Set in 150 acres of pasture, wet meadows and woodland, this is a fantastic place to let little ones roam free and explore. Spend the day meeting and greeting the farms residents or indulge in some outdoor education ‘en famille’ with a wander along the nature trails. Each route is adorned with a selection of hideaway huts that provide the perfect place to introduce your wee ones to the delights of ‘twitching’.
Should tummies begin to rumble, why not complete your journey from field to fork by paying a visit to the perfectly positioned café? Here you can enjoy some great local grub within shouting distance of the play area below. Finally, before you round up your herd to go, be sure to stop into the farm shop. This ode to organic houses a delicatessen and traditional butchery and offers a fantastic selection of locally produced food and drink.
